Bazaar
Bazaar has always been the meeting point of trading, life and culture. Back in the days, it
connected merchants and craftsmen between west and the east. And now we are relating
music with culture, as a melting pot of Western Latino, Far Eastern Chinese and Middle
Eastern tribes.
Bazaar, based in Taiwan, carries different perspectives in expressing the vibes of Middle
East. As the birthplace of civilization, this region has legacies to unearth and stories to
tell.
Bazaar means Market, it has always been the meeting point of trading, life and culture.
Back in the days, it connected merchants and craftsmen between west and the east. And
now we are relating music with culture, as a melting pot of Western Latino, Far Eastern
Chinese and Middle Eastern tribes.
Bazaar, as a band, carries different perspectives in expressing the vibes of Middle East.
As the birthplace of civilization, this region has legacies to unearth and stories to tell. Our
albums are partly recorded in Armenia and Iran, covering the traditional instruments
including Oud, Duduk, Santur, Ney, Kemanche, Arabian vocal, Persian vocal, Recorder,
Daf, Riq and Darbuka.
With the release of our first album <Grand Bazaar> on 2015, it is nominated <The Best
Instrumental Album> of Golden Melody Awards, and <The Best Jazz Single>, <The Best
Jazz Album>, <The Best Band>, <The Best Player> of Golden Indie Music Awards in
Taiwan. On 2017, our second album <The Persian Infusion> is released.
It is the music inspired by the culture, while resonates with this era
Will'z Chieng (威威 良)
Will is a piano player, arranger and composer. Born in Malaysia, his sense of music is influenced multiculturally, thus his interest is extent to the Ethnic music. Being a music traveller while classically trained made him versatile in both commercial and experimental music.
Having involved in more than 50 productions of pop music and over 200 concerts, he also composed for films and many others. He is also directing for the band of Z-Chen, Valen Hsu, Gary Chaw and other Chinese artists.
He had travelled over six continents 38 countries and is aiming to produce more ethnic music in the future.
Alban Coueffe Oud player.
Born in Lyon, France in 1982, Alban developed his interest in world music at the early age. He learned Violin ,and also learned Ukulélé, Saz, Oud.
He went to Istanbul to learn Turkish Oud, he eventually began to learn the beautiful and difficult art of the Lutherie.
During his several fieldwork in Taiwan, he learned Chinese instruments like Ruan(阮), Erhu(二胡）, and Nanguan Pipa (南管琵琶).
In 2011, Alban obtained
his PhD in transcultural studies, he decided to follow his dream.
Alban is now living in Taipei, he opened a “atelier de lutherie”, a small workshop where he builds and repairs musical instruments.
AnLi Peng clarinet
Graduated from Chinese Culture University in Music Department Western Music Division in the class of 2008, After graduated Anli joined the TaoYuan Symphonic Band(Wind Band) in 2009, and performance domestic and international.
•In 2010, she won the First Prize in Taiwan Band Association(T.B.A) Cup Tenth Competition Club Band for Music Profession.
•In 2014, she won the Second Prize in Chiayi City International Band Festival & Competition-Wind Band Group for Music Profession.
•In 2014, She performed with Hamnavâ (the Middle Eastern Ensemble) featuring Souhail Kaspar Master in Taiwan and Okinawa.
•She is now teaching Tzu Wen Junior High School, 桃園市音樂文化協會 and Gong-Pu Elementary School.
Cheng Sun Drums
Born in Feb 7 1985. He grew up in Taipei, started learning drum at the age of 15.
After couple years of training, he was recruited by Dizzy Jazz Orchestra, the band is known as the first Jazz big band in Taiwan.He had participated in several Jazz music concert, and music festivals.
In 2008, he joined a jazz music seminars held by U.O.L. 2010, He won a Grand Jury Prize in Japanese Drummer Contest held in Taipei. 2012, He won the first place in D.O.T. Taiwan region contest to represent Taiwan to join the International D.O.T. Championship.
Today, As brand representative of MAPAX in Asia. Cheng Sun and his band have three album published. Also performing throughout the world with those well-known Taiwaness artists occasionally. He is a concert performer, studio musician, record producer, music director, always dedicated himself to his music life actively, and develop more passion for the music.
